The Covey Collection: January 29th at 6pm CT
I don’t think I’ve ever been more excited about a collection! Quail have always been my favorite. When I was young I loved listening to them and my dad taught me how to mimic their whistles. Being able to “talk” to them and hear them respond back is one of my favorite childhood memories. I’ve wanted to create jewelry pieces inspired by them for a long time but never knew how I wanted them to look. A few days ago I finally just started without having a plan. Focusing on what felt right and not worrying about it looking ugly. Creating like this has brought me so much joy.
I was going to stop at just six pieces for the collection but I felt really inspired and excited to make more. So I’ve been working away and I’m almost done with all of them. If all goes well I will have eighteen pieces when I’m finished! I’m loving adding as many little details as I can.
These pieces are truly a labor of love. Just shaping and soldering the accents on one quail takes about an hour and a half. I also use the hand saw to cut out each quail shape and make the tiny bezels myself. They are all made with sterling silver and my favorite Sonoran turquoise.
I will have rings in the following sizes: 10, 9, 8 (x2), 7.5, 7, 6, and 5.
